Career Coaching

“I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: ‘If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?’ And when the answer has been ‘No’ for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.” – Steve Jobs

Are you considering a career change…or already working on one?

Is there something about your current career that leaves you wanting more? This is where a career coach can help. Perhaps it’s a lack of personal fulfillment and a longing to find true meaning in your work.

Maybe you feel driven to embark on a new and exciting career adventure. Or you feel magnetically drawn to serve others in a way that truly resonates with your core values and honors your life purpose.

Perhaps you already know what you want to do but just aren’t sure of how to make your goal a reality. You may have the dream of starting your own business but just don’t know where to begin.

Or is your first step to explore your options and figure out what you really want to do? Maybe you’d really love to make a career change but the fear of the unknown and the perceived security of the familiar are holding you back.

Whatever your career goal or challenge, let’s work together to get you to where you truly want to be.

My mission as your career coach, is to guide you to success on your career journey. To best achieve that goal, I use a highly effective, evidence-based approach to career coaching. This allows me to help you successfully navigate challenges, discover practical solutions, achieve your goals and make your career dreams a reality. And most of my clients make significant progress a lot sooner than they expect!

All of the career coaching tools and techniques I use are evidence-based. There’s research proving that they actually get results. I’d love to put my carer coaching experience and expertise to work for you.

There are three essential steps to my career coaching approach. If you decide you’d like to work together, we’ll design a fully customized career coaching plan that focuses on achieving the career goals that are most important to you. We’ll take full advantage of your unique strengths, experiences and resources, as well as addressing any challenges you may have, to create a plan that’s the best possible fit for you.

Step One: Identify Your Starting Point, Desired Outcomes, and Options

First, we’ll take some time to discuss your current career situation. We’ll get an accurate picture of where you are right now. Then we’ll focus in on clearly defining the career goals you want to achieve.

Once we know our starting point and our desired outcomes, we’ll explore different options for helping you to make your career goals a reality. Most clients find this a very enjoyable experience that leads to some “AHA” moments, a range of good options, and increased clarity around the goals we’ll be working on together.

Step Two: Exploring Your Unique Strengths, Experiences, and Resources

In this step, we’ll shine a bright light on your unique set of strengths, experiences and resources. Most people are pleasantly surprised to discover several that they never even knew they had.

We’ll explore the various ways in which we can best utilize your strengths, experiences and resources to inspire you to step out of your comfort zone, take consistent action, keep you focused and motivated during your journey, and work through any internal or external roadblocks standing in your way. We’ll also look at your previous life experiences to see what hidden gems we can tap into.

Step Three: Making it Real

And now the really exciting part! We’ll bring it all together to custom design and implement a practical plan to get you from where you are now to where you want to go. We’ll determine what it will take, map out your step-by-step path to success, address how we will work through any potential blocks, and do whatever it takes for you to achieve lasting, positive improvements in your work…and your life!

I’ve dedicated myself to career coaching because I believe that everyone deserves to be happy and fulfilled in their work. I want to help you get there. After all, it’s where we spend so much of our lives.

MOTIVATION and ACCOUNTABILITY are What Make the Real Difference

It’s the actions you take that ultimately determine your success in achieving your goals. I believe it’s my ability, as a career coach, to motivate my clients to take the necessary actions AND my commitment to holding them accountable for completing those actions that set me apart as a coach.

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” – Mark Twain

Tom Gray, West Boylston, MA
My name is Thomas Gray and I have worked with Jim on life and health coaching in the past. Recently Jim, in the capacity of Positive Psychology coach, has been incredibly insightful in helping me identify how I could change my life and work situation to align more with my values.

Previously working in IT, I had not been happy for years, but I coveted the money I was making and had not looked inward to view my unhappiness. Jim helped me realize my desire to help people in need and most important why it was suppressed for so long. Once he drilled down into why making a change would benefit my mental wellbeing, we explored ways to achieve my desire to make a difference in people’s lives. We discussed the money aspects, lifestyle, drive and ambition, and hit on the reason for a change.

I had seen firsthand how fulfilling a career in social services could be and knew this would be my destiny. All the reasons I had not done this exploration before were examined with Jim’s help and the fear of change melted away as I made the decision to change. What a relief it was.

I looked into and found a great opportunity, made the change and have not looked back. Jim has a great way of getting to the issues and obstacles that could stymie personal growth. He is insightful, steering the conversation to enable deep searching for what is most important for fulfillment and satisfaction. In short, Jim’s hard work has helped effect an extremely positive change in my life.
